Editorial Policy

How this guide is written and what it does not publish.

This page sets out how the guide is researched and written, so that a reader can judge what is behind any statement on the site.

Where facts come from

Heritage facts are checked against the official UNESCO listing for each property: the inscription year, the criteria, the boundary and, where relevant, the fact that a listing is shared between several countries. Park information is checked against the national park authorities. Anything that depends on a season, a price or a timetable is presented as something to confirm, not as a fixed number.

  • No visitor numbers or revenue figures unless an official source publishes them.
  • No opening hours or entrance fees stated as permanent.
  • No quoted passages attributed to a person unless the source is public.

How articles are built

Each article starts from a single question a traveller would ask, then answers it in order: what the place is, why it matters, how to reach it and what to check before going. Headings follow that structure rather than a shared template, which is why no two pages have the same section list.

Distance and time estimates

Times given for drives and walks are indicative and assume normal conditions. Mountain roads in Montenegro are slower than the distance suggests, and snow, rockfall or summer traffic can change a journey substantially. Where the difference is significant, the text says so.

Updates and corrections

Pages are revised when a fact changes: a new inscription, a closed trail, a changed access rule. When a claim cannot be verified, it is removed rather than softened. Corrections from readers are welcome and are folded into the text.

Commercial content

There is none in the editorial pages. If commercial content ever appears, it will be labelled as advertising and kept out of the guides themselves.

Travel responsibly. Heritage sites and national parks are protected areas. Stay on marked paths, take your litter away, respect local communities and wildlife, and follow the current rules and fees published by each site and park authority.
