Celebration of the World Philosophy Day in Cetinje
Montenegro is participating in the global celebration of the World Philosophy Day, established by UNESCO’s General Conference in 2005.
The World Philosophy Day celebration, organized by the National Commission for UNESCO of Montenegro, will be held onNovember 15th at the Ministry of Culture in Cetinje, starting at 12h. The program will include a lecture by prof. dr. Sonja Tomović-Šundić, Dean of the Faculty of Political Sciences in Podgorica, and a concert of the students of the Music Academy.
This international celebration will be held at UNESCO’s Headquarters in Paris and in many Member States of this Organization. By instituting the World Philosophy day as a global observance, the General Conference of UNESCO has given an important encouragement to the development of philosophical thought and, more specifically, to the teaching of philosophy in the world. In establishing World Philosophy Day in 2005, the General Conference highlighted the importance of this discipline, underlining that philosophy is a discipline that encourages critical and independent thought and is capable of working towards a better understanding of the world and promoting tolerance and peace, as UNESCO’s ground principles.
In occasion of the World Philosophy Day celebration in Montenegro, which will start at 12h in the Multimedia Auditorium of the Ministry of Culture in Cetinje, prof. dr. Sonja Tomović Šundić will hold the lecture titled “The Sense of Philosophy Today”. The lecture will be followed by a concert of Cetinje’s Music Academy students – Igor Pejović, violin, and Dino Beharović-accordion. The manifestation will be attended by the students and the professors from the Faculty of Philosophy in Nikšić, the Faculty of Political Sciences in Podgorica, the Faculty of Visual, Dramatic and Musical Arts in Cetinje and the University of Donja Gorica (the Liberal Arts and the Art Faculty departments).
The main attraction of this year’s UNESCO’s World Philosophy Day’s celebration is the installation of the time capsule, which will be buried at the Paris Headquarters, and dug out in 2062. Everybody will be given the opportunity to leave a message/book/drawing/photo or anything they consider valuable, which might not be available to future generations. Which are the values we have inherited that we would like to pass on to future generations? Which are the objectives or goals you would transmit in this way?
