UNESCO art contest “Pathways to a Culture of Peace: Global Contest for Mutual Understanding”

Registration deadline for the UNESCO art contest “Pathways to a Culture of Peace: Global Contest for Mutual Understanding” intended for young people from 14 to 25 years, is over. Young people will have chance to present their vision of peace and non-violence and share the diverse experiences of practicing everyday, peace, by way of essay, photography, video and graphic design. Eligible participants are pupils of elementary and secondary UNESCO ASPnet schools, and young people from 19 to 25. The art contest is organized by the UNESCO Platform for peace and non-violence, in coordination with the National Commission for UNESCO and Ministry of Education and Sports.

In the Guidelines for participation, it is said that ” the key-objectives of the Contest are:

1. To promote a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence through the works submitted, which are to be developed upon a reflection on key-notions of peace and take the format of essays, photos, videos, graphic arts;

2. To develop the sense of belonging to, and the responsibility towards humanity, while respecting the value of its plural identities;

3. To share concrete experiences of everyday peace at individual, local, national, regional or international level;

4. To reinforce peace-making knowledge, skills and values among young people”.

The winners of the Contest, in the four above-mentioned categories, chosen by the Special Jury, will be posted on the Internet, in a digital catalogue, containing original initiatives at local, national, regional and international level. Also, UNESCO will award special rewards to the eight winners. Registration deadline was on 30th November. Submission deadline is on 21st March 2013.

Having respect towards the aims of the art contest, aimed at promoting universal values and the key concepts of peace and non-violence, and raising awareness on the importance of developing peaceful dialogue and culture of non-violence, National Commission for UNESCO and Ministry of Education and Sports, encourage a maximum number of UNESCO ASPnet students, to take part, individually or collectively, in the Contest.
