UNESCO approves the project ‘Providing of Interactive Centers for Early and Preschool Education’ for an amount of 26.000 USD

The Director-General of UNESCO has approved the project ‘Providing Interactive Centers for Early and Preschool Education’ for an amount of 26.000 USD, in concordance with the request submitted by the Ministry of Education and Sports to the National Commission for UNESCO and under the Participation Programme 2012-2013.

The project ‘Providing Interactive Centers for Early and Preschool Education’ aims to provide high-quality, comprehensive and inclusive services for all children in Montenegro, from birth to the enrollment in primary school, with a special emphasis on children with special needs. One of the top priorities of this project is to increase the coverage of children and to expand the existing physical capacities of preschool institutions through increasing the number of facilities in targeted municipalities. In addition, priority has been given to children from marginalized and vulnerable groups, including the children from remote rural areas. The project also endorses the development of various support, cooperation and parent-inclusion models for raising and educating the children.

The General Directorate’s Sector for External Relations and Public Information has recommended that in the process of implementation and evaluation of this project it is necessary to consider gender equality, as it is one of UNESCO’s global priorities. The implementation of this and any other approved project is under the Principles and Procedures of the Participation Programme, found in the document 36/Resolution 69.

‘Providing Interactive Centers for Early and Preschool Education’ is found on the Proposed Priority List, which is the result of the Contest for Project Nomination under UNESCO’s Participation Programme 2012-2013. Out of the 30 projects submitted to the contest, the priority has been given to the ten projects which complied most with the criteria prescribed by the National Commission.

This is the second project that UNESCO has approved under this Programme. It is reminded that the project ‘Towards the Designation of Lake Skadar as Trans-Boundary Biosphere Reserve’, realized by Green Home NGO and the Albanian Institute for Nature Conservation was approved in October.
